How do I change the transmission fluid of my car?

I know how to change the engine oil on my car.

However, I don't know when I should change my transmission

fluid and HOW to change the transmission fluid.

My car is a toyota corolla. How do I change the transmission fluid of my car?Take it to a lube center they can hook it up to a system that will flush out all the old fluid till it is clean it will flush all the old fluid out of the valve body and converter you can't do that by just draining the fluid out of the pan .How do I change the transmission fluid of my car?U need only 2 change transmission fluid if the milage is high or the fluid is discoloured, ie a brown colour instead of red. Changing the fluid is the same as engine oil change, locate the plug on the gearbox, remove and drain fluid. Refill with the correct fluid via the gearbox dipstick hole, DO NOT OVER FILL, and ensure no dirt gets in2 the gearbox when refillingHow do I change the transmission fluid of my car?A standard/manual transmission I would not concern myself with until 100k.An automatic has a change schedule in the manual. When you do change it get the gasket/filter kit from your supplier.Get the car lifted and blocked so it can not come down or roll on you. Then place a large pan under the pan. Loosen the pan bolts part way and loosen the pan allowing the fluid to drain.Take the pan off and completely clean away any remnants of the gasket.Do this to the transmission too.You will see the filter in the transmission.Sometimes they are pressure fitted or bolted

Remove filter and replace with new one.Sometimes there are O rings to replace too.Clean the pan and place some Silicone on it to hold/seal the gasket.Reverse the steps and add transmission fluid.I recommend getting a Chilton manual (library?) for your year/model of car to be certain this is done correctly. It is quite easy to do but the bolts have exact torque settings and most transmissions today are aluminum.

  • Diesel engines vs gas engines in acceleration?

I'm seriously considering converting to a diesel engine with a Toyota Rav4. Want to know how much pep a Diesel will have in a light SUV like mine. What other differences would I notice in changing engines?

Main reason to switch is to go with biodeisel as fuel.

Diesel engines vs gas engines in acceleration? All other things being somewhat equal that is horsepower and so forth. You will have less acceleration but more torque with the diesel. The Gas engine puts out power over a much wider RPM range then a diesel.

The Diesel has more torque as it has a longer stroke (piston stroke, - higher compression). The longer stroke means lower RPMs is where your power-band is and it is quite a bit narrower. Depending on your rear axle gearing do not expect to be as fast speed either, unless you do some gearing changes. This also may give you some issues. See if you can compare other models and breads with Gas vs Diesel and check the gear ratios of the rear axle. Diesel engines vs gas engines in acceleration?FC is right, you might get better miles per gallon with a diesel engine but the price of diesel is higher too. good question

I have an ancient Merc 350 mercury outboard. How do I get at the engine to change the plugs?

It has a blue line but I think that it is a redline motor that has been changedI have an ancient Merc 350 mercury outboard. Does overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?

A month ago I changed engine oil on EasyLube and oil was overfilled about 4 inches above mark on a oil dipstick. I discovered it next day after driving about 30 mi. EasyLube fixed it bringing oil to normal level. But since then a car has strange noise and vibration, stronger when not driving, on stops, also over heated. It is Honda Accord, 99, 4 cl. Before were any problems. Now feel like my car dyeing. How can fix this problems? What need to do? Thanks.Does overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?If you didn't bring the RPMs above 3500 on that 30 mile drive, then it probably didn't to damage.

But judging from the symptoms indicated, some oil got inside the cylinders through the oil seals, fail to burn and ruined your catalytic converter. I would get estimates and file a claim against them. They have coverage for these incidents and if they don't cooperate, take them to small claims.Does overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?This definitely can cause problems. It can also cause permanent damage.

In all automotive engines the crank shaft is supposed to be above the oil level. It receives its lubrication from the oil pump.

If the oil level is too high the crank shaft will touch the oil in the oil pan. The crank shaft rotating in the oil inside the oil pan places a tremendous drag. Worst case it can bend the connecting rods. When this happens catastrophic failure is eminent.

Also, as the crankshaft rotates it will churn the oil, causing aeration and eventually sustained foam may form. This can lead to overheated motor oil, oxidation and a loss of oil pressure. Spongy aerated oil is hard to pump. It starves the engine and critical lubricated surfaces.

The vibrations you describe should have been noticeable the moment you drove away from the lube shop. You should have returned immediately.

Now that you waited 30 days it is your word against theirs that this damage was caused by them. A lot could have happened to a 10 year old car in 30 days of driving.

Try returning to the lube shop to complain. Give the manager a chance to make it right first. However you may need to hire a lawyer. And a lawyer will take a good chunk of money that you would get if you win in court.Does overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?1 find out whats wrong,,leakdown rest,,,compression test.check coolant for oil..oil 4 coolant,,overheating? on a little aluminum engine once is enough to ruin it if not causght quickly

    2 may be thermostate

3,when tuned up [if ever ],,,check engine lite on? it actually does mean something

    4 find mechanic

5 doesnt sound goodDoes overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?Mad Jack is the only one with the correct answer especially if the oil level was 4 inches above the fill mark. That means the oil was probably filling up the complete engine block and caused the damage that Mad Jack said. Sorry, you will have to fight with the lube place.Does overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?the vibration could just be your exhaust if its making more noise when the cars stationary , check it first , also did it ever overheat before or has it happened again since , is it using alot of water? take the cap off the engine oil filter if the oil there is scummy looking you could have a head gasket problemDoes overfilled engine oil cause strange noise and vibration and overheat in a car? What need to do?Too much oil can ruin a catalytic converter but that's about it.

The oil burns off in a few minutes.

I suppose it's possible that the oil blew into the air filter but I can't think of anything else. That you can easily check.

I have pulsar150cc its RPM meter has a red light, some time it glow some time its not what it indicates?

And also how to maintain pulsar and when i should change engine and brake oil? (i bought July 2009)I have pulsar150cc its RPM meter has a red light, some time it glow some time its not what it indicates?Normally a light on an RPM gauge is a shift light ........reminds you when to shift to the next gear.

It's the lights at best time to have the easiest load on the engine and best fuel mileage.

The Brake FLUID should be changed at least one a year.

I'm not sure about the oil change intervals on those smaller engine .

Basically if the oil smells or looks burnt.....just change it anyway.

better to be safe then sorry.....oil is the life blood of an engineI have pulsar150cc its RPM meter has a red light, some time it glow some time its not what it indicates?it is low petrol indicator refer manual.ingine oil to be changed for 2500 iff too concerned else at 3000-3500

How would a deisel engine performance change in extreme heat?

this is totally theoretical. my truck exhausts gas at temp around 900 F if i remember correctly. what if the ambient air was also

900F how would the engines performance change. just the engine; i dont want to know about the rubber melting or the cloth seats catching afire. from a thermodynamic standpoint is what im looking for. also does liquid fuel temp in the tank affec performance in the engine? thanksHow would a deisel engine performance change in extreme heat?i think it will go quite fast before it blows up

yes the fuel temp in tank will affect performance

How do you stop the engine oil going to the engine computer from the cam position sensor on a merc 210 E Class?

Mercedes Benz say that its a common problem and you need to change the engine wire harness and the computer. Is there any way with cleaning or modifying the wire harness and the cam position sensor to cut costs rather than replacing the entire wire harness? How do you stop the engine oil going to the engine computer from the cam position sensor on a merc 210 E Classthe harness can be untapped and wires cleaned with brake-clean spray and re taped leaving open sections sections at low points in the harness for drains. the cam sensor connector boot can be modified with a drain tube [straw from a can of carb cleaner] the computer disconnect and computer terminals can be cleaned with %26quot;lectrosolve%26quot; of course the sensor will have to be replaced.

you know this is the sort of crap that you expect from british cars [they stay dry now] mercedes has really slipped they need to stand down and take a good look at themselves and where they are %26quot;headead%26quot; as a manufacturerHow do you stop the engine oil going to the engine computer from the cam position sensor on a merc 210 E Classgo to the dealer and buy the updated version of this sensor .

this will stop oil entering the engine module
