How tough would it be to change the fluid? Can I do it myself? Whats involved? Is it like changing the engine oil?Is it tough to change the tranny fluid on a 2002 dodge ram 1500.?when you drain that one you have to lower the pan to one side or it will run all over the place, once its all drained out clean off all the old gasket and let it set for as long as you can so it will drain real good and wipe down all of the insides of the transmission that you can with a few old rags, then using a new gasket or form a gasket which works just as good put it in place and torque all the bolts down evenly not real tight at first just snug them and go back over them and snug all them up,and let it set for a few minute before adding fluid to it,if not it may leak on you,and make sure before you put the pan on that you straiten the pan up where the old bolts have drawn it up and caused small indents where the bolt go this will help assure it gets a good tight seal again, once all this is done refill it and start it and let it idle and proceed to fill it to the full mark when it reaches operating temperature, and check for leaks, its a simple job but time consuming, good luck with it.Is it tough to change the tranny fluid on a 2002 dodge ram 1500.?its not real hard, similar to oil. drain it and put fresh in, make sure you get the right weight( ask the auto store)Is it tough to change the tranny fluid on a 2002 dodge ram 1500.?Basically, the difference is you have to take the tranny pan off and clean up the gasket off the pan and tranny with (I use) a wire wheel on my drill and spray everything with electrical parts cleaner then wipe a couple times with a rag making sure you didn't leave anything behind. Then pull the filter out, they usually just push in to place. Then it depends on the gasket whether or not you use a sealer but I prefer the high tack adhesive because i've never had a leak with it. It pretty much works like rubber cement, but better. You just apply a really thin layer on both sides and let it dry then stick it making real sure the bolt holes are lined up by starting a couple bolts in the pan then putting in the rest. Just a little more than snug the bolts up after you have them all put back in making sure to not squeeze the gasket out cracking it.Is it tough to change the tranny fluid on a 2002 dodge ram 1500.?I think it would be more cost effective and convenient to have the transmission flushed instead of just changing the oil in the pan. You would only be replacing half the fluid just by dropping the pan. A tranmission fluid flush would replace 99% of the fluids. Best of luck.
