Diesel engines vs gas engines in acceleration?

I'm seriously considering converting to a diesel engine with a Toyota Rav4. Want to know how much pep a Diesel will have in a light SUV like mine. What other differences would I notice in changing engines?

Main reason to switch is to go with biodeisel as fuel.

Diesel engines vs gas engines in acceleration? All other things being somewhat equal that is horsepower and so forth. You will have less acceleration but more torque with the diesel. The Gas engine puts out power over a much wider RPM range then a diesel.

The Diesel has more torque as it has a longer stroke (piston stroke, - higher compression). The longer stroke means lower RPMs is where your power-band is and it is quite a bit narrower. Depending on your rear axle gearing do not expect to be as fast speed either, unless you do some gearing changes. This also may give you some issues. See if you can compare other models and breads with Gas vs Diesel and check the gear ratios of the rear axle. Diesel engines vs gas engines in acceleration?FC is right, you might get better miles per gallon with a diesel engine but the price of diesel is higher too. good question
