Right now you're probably all going to say it's a stupid idea, changing an engine isn't worth the trouble. Just buy a new car. However, please answer this question as if buying a new car wasn't an option and a new engine is the only way to improve the power.
How would someone with not much car knowledge go about getting a new engine and changing it for the 1.4 in my Golf. I know it's a huge job as everything has to be replaced and it is probably expensive, but does anyone know where this could be done or what to do? Talk about one haulin @$$ convertible!!MK4 Golf engine change?Are you replacing it with the same engine or a bigger one? it will be cheaper to fix the one you have I suspect unless it has seized or thrown a rod through the block or something just as catastrophic.
Engine swaps are indeed expensive unless you have a workshop with a hoist and like you say, it will be cheaper to change the car.
You won't buy a 'new' engine either, it will be a re-con at the very best, with little guarantee. sorry to gloom you up but thats how it is.
