On a chevy small v8 how do you get a ratchet on the side of the engine to change the spark plugs, any tips?

There are a couple of ways to remove the plugs in tight places. #1. Take off the front tires and remove the plugs through the upper-A arm opening inside the fender-well. #2. There are companies such as S%26amp;K who make deep well spark plug sockets with a hex on the 3/8 socket end so you can remove the plugs with a combination / end wrench.

Occasionally you have to take one of these steps where combinations of regular extensions or wobble head extensions and ratchets won't fit.

As for Wess, I'll bet he's never worked inside a new no-horsepower Ford pick-up engine compartment! They're a freaking sweet-heart!On a chevy small v8 how do you get a ratchet on the side of the engine to change the spark plugs, any tips?Use a 3 inch extension with a wobble head on it. Most spark plug sockets have the possibility of using a socket wrench on it instead of just the ratchet or extension. Hopefully, you are not bothering to use the junk AC Delco plugs that do not burn consistently, and are installing a set of Denso Iridium or Bosch Fusion plugs that extract more power from the chemicals in the unleaded fuels. You should mention WHAT this engine is sitting in, since it is the chassis design that makes plug installation difficult, not the engine itself. Most cars of this period were designed for ease of manufacture, and not for ease of repair. Good luck!On a chevy small v8 how do you get a ratchet on the side of the engine to change the spark plugs, any tips?I've done thousands. You take off the tire and use a two foot extension with a swivel on the end. On some of them you can use a palm ratchet to get the plug out with a 1 inch extension. It's a pain but it works.
