How hard is it to change an engine in a 1989 ford ranger?

i have a 89 ford ranger with a bad engine. i bought a donar truck with a bad tranny so i am gonna take the bad engine out of my truck and put in the good engine. its a 2.9l fuel injected engine. how hard is it going to be to swap them? i am also going to have some friends help who are good with vehicles but i wanna know if it is going to be really hard. thanks for the help i appriciate your time to help meHow hard is it to change an engine in a 1989 ford ranger?Not really all that hard with a couple of buddies and a few beers (or Cokes if you please) can be done in one day.



Two suggestions:

1 Use a digital camera (like the one in modern cell phones) and take pictures of EVERY electrical connection you remove. Makes installation go a whole lot smoother

2 As someone else said here remove engine and tranny together. Separate and re connect on the ground then reinstall them together. Keeps from having to fight the clutch/torque converter/bell housing issues.



Sep three get some wrenches and go have a great time. its nice to have some one on the bottom to line up the torque converter and tell you ,up, down, and work that mother fu**er we're almost there!How hard is it to change an engine in a 1989 ford ranger?Take your time and pay attention to everything that you take off and swap everything back to the same place, no cutting wires or hoses unless you are replacing them. Keep the tranny supported as you remove the motor. Not a real hard job with friends.
